Lake Nakuru National Park
A scenic Rift Valley alkaline lake encircled by yellow-barked fever tree woodlands, hosting black and white rhinos and vibrant birdlife.
Discovering Lake Nakuru National Park
Set on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru National Park surrounds a shimmering shallow alkaline lake famous for its dramatic volcanic cliffs, yellow-barked acacia woodlands, and exceptional biodiversity. Just a short drive northwest of Nairobi, it is one of Kenya’s most accessible and successful conservation success stories.
The park is designated as an internationally protected sanctuary for endangered rhinos, supporting healthy populations of both southern white rhinos and critically endangered black rhinos that browse quietly in the lush euphorbia and acacia forests. It also shelters translocated Rothschild giraffes, waterbucks, leopards, and lions.
Flocks of flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, and African fish eagles populate the lake shorelines, providing birdwatchers with extraordinary photography opportunities from observation points like Baboon Cliff and Out of Africa viewpoint.
