Amboseli National Park
Celebrated for iconic views of Mount Kilimanjaro and immense free-ranging elephant families roaming acacia savannahs.
Discovering Amboseli National Park
Nestled at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro—Africa's highest mountain—Amboseli National Park is celebrated worldwide as the premier destination for encountering immense, free-ranging herds of African elephants. Spanning 392 square kilometers in southern Kenya, the park's open plains provide one of the most iconic and photographed vistas in all of travel: massive tuskers marching across dusty golden savannahs beneath the towering, snow-capped dome of Kilimanjaro.
The park is fed by underground subterranean aquifers from Kilimanjaro's glacial melt, creating lush green marshlands and springs such as Enkongo Narok and Olokenya that sustain abundant wildlife through dry seasons. Visitors routinely spot lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, giraffes, zebras, and Cape buffaloes cooling off in the emerald wetlands alongside wallowing hippos.
Observation Hill offers a panoramic vantage point over the entirety of Amboseli's Pleistocene lake basin and surrounding swamps. With over 400 bird species—including pelicans, kingfishers, and raptors—Amboseli delivers an intimate, unforgettable encounter with Africa's majestic megafauna against an awe-inspiring volcanic horizon.
